The Force Education Unit was established in 1986 primarily as a welfare scheme to cater for the educational needs of children of Police officers and men whose education had suffered as a result of incessant transfers of their parents.
Before then, only one Police Children School existed. That was Police Children School, Port-Harcourt, which was run by the Rivers State Command as a welfare programme for children and wards of police officers and men serving in Rivers State. When the Force Education Office was established with its seat at the then Force Headquarters, Lagos, establishment of other Police Children Schools followed.
The Mustard seed of 1986 has now grown in leaps and bounds with 79 Police Children Schools, in 32 states of the federation and FCT Abuja and Nine Secondary schools located in Minna Niger State, Mini-Okoro Port-Harcourt, Akure Ondo State, Ukana Akwa-Ibom, Shanono-Kano Mani-Katsina and Calabar Cross-River, Isu-Nwangele Imo State, Gusau Zamfara State.
The Force Education Unit is presently under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration), . The Force Education Unit Secretariat complex is situated at Dei-Dei Mopol barracks, off Abuja – Suleja Express Road.
