The Directorate of Police Education was established in 1986 primarily as a welfare scheme to cater for the educational needs of children of Police Officers and men whose education had suffered as a result of incessant transfers of their parents.
Before then, only one Police Children Schools existed. When the Force Education Office was established with its seat at the then Force Headquarters, Lagos, establishment of other Police Children Schools followed.
