Police Secondary School Akpabuyo, Calabar is one of the pioneer Secondary schools established by the Nigeria Police Force. It came into being on 2nd June, 1993. The school started with fifty-five students, nine teachers and few non-academic staff members. Fifty-four police personnel were added to provide tight security for the students and staff members. The first Commandant of the school was SP I. Shettima since then, the school has passed through the leadership of sixteen commandants.
PSS Calabar has witnessed exponential growth. Today, the school can boast of many students, about one hundred and two teaching staff, seventy non-teaching staff and eighty-eight Police personnel.
The school has produced many Police ambassadors (Ex-students) who are today occupying sensitive and lucrative positions in all walks of life. The school not only equips the students with paper qualifications but also gives them life-enhancing skills that help them chart their way out of the jungle of life to avoid subjecting them to socio-economic exclusion in the future. Police Secondary School, Calabar is a model school where enduring values such as skills, respect for law and order, emotional stability, intelligence and dignity of labour are in constant focus. The school is second to none academically, with a standard worth emulating.
Police Secondary School, Calabar is a boarding school with adequate infrastructures ranging from hostels, laboratories, clinic, library, dining hall, sports facilities, classroom blocks, assembly hall, boreholes, administrative block and a generating plant for constant electricity supply in the event of PHCN failure.
